A lot of us feel cynical, exhausted, or disconnected from politics, and honestly, that makes complete sense. When national news is constantly frustrating and systemic progress moves so slowly, it is easy to wonder if casting a ballot changes anything.

The reality is that voting is one of the very few direct levers of power we actually hold. While national races get all the media attention, local elections are where decisions hit closest to home. City councils, county commissioners, school boards, and municipal judges make the choices that shape local housing, transit, community health, and civil protections in our neighborhoods.

For LGBTQ+ people and marginalized communities, sitting out comes at a real price. When there are organized efforts working hard to strip away our basic rights, restrict our healthcare, or erase queer and trans people from public spaces, showing up to vote is a practical way to defend ourselves and protect one another.
